Momentum Exhaustion
Story type: Situational
Three momentum signals suggest exhaustion: RSI divergence is present, trend exhaustion indicators are elevated, and MACD histogram is weakening. Together these describe a condition where momentum appears to be decelerating.
State
Momentum exhaustion profile
Emergence
Multiple momentum exhaustion indicators. When RSI shows divergence from price, trend exhaustion signals are present, and MACD histogram is weakening, momentum indicators suggest the current trend may be losing force. This describes a condition where multiple momentum frameworks show deceleration.
Limits
This story identifies exhaustion characteristics, not reversal prediction or trend end. It does not predict direction change, guarantee the trend will fail, or indicate timing. Exhaustion signals can persist while trends continue, and exhaustion can resolve through consolidation rather than reversal.
Explanation
Each signal represents an independent observation about momentum state: RSI Divergence measures disagreement between price and RSI direction. Divergence indicates price is making new highs/lows while RSI is not confirming. Trend Exhaustion measures indicators associated with trend deceleration. Elevated readings suggest the trend may be losing momentum. MACD Histogram measures the difference between MACD and its signal line. A weakening histogram indicates momentum is decelerating even if still positive. When all three align, they describe momentum deceleration from multiple perspectives—an observation about current momentum state, not future direction.
Interpretation
This story identifies exhaustion characteristics, not reversal certainty. It does not predict direction change, guarantee trend failure, or indicate timing. Exhaustion can resolve through consolidation, continuation, or reversal.
